During the summer of 2010 the Wessex & Jersey Area of NAFAS was given the opportunity of working with children and their families at events across the region where they could create and take away a small flower arrangement.

So successful were these events for both the Area and the Organisers that we have been offered a full calendar of events throughout 2011.

Some of our Area Members volunteered to help out with the events and found the opportunity both interesting and valuable.  Whilst the children were busy flower arranging, we discovered from their parents that there was very little being offered in the way of learning the skill of flower arranging.

A questionnaire was circulated at the 2010 events and showed some interesting information.  One or two Clubs benefited from new members as a result of the work of the Outreach Team.

Surprisingly, being a volunteer at an outdoor event is quite a relaxing affair.  The children, in particular, are very quick to catch on with the task and soon become very creative.  Parents are very willing to help out when small fingers can’t quite manage the scissors.  Many of the events were accompanied by soothing music and we were so lucky with the weather !

That being said, we feel that we shouldn’t keep all this fun-filled activity to ourselves…… We would like to share around the opportunity for ALL our members to support and work with the Outreach Venture.
